5 Products We Tried in June That Are Worth the Splurge

We’re all about good deals here at Sporked. From our hunt for the best foods under $5 to our triumphant search for a Rao’s marinara dupe that is just a fraction of the price, we can’t get enough of money-saving munchies. But sometimes a pricey item really wows you, and you can’t help but huff and puff while you continue to savor your price-of-a-meal snack because, gosh darn it, it’s good! It’s okay, it happens. In fact, it happened to us more than once during our June taste tests. Here are the splurge-worth products we tried last month.

Seamazz Lobster Meat ($28)

Forget the trauma of boiling a live lobster or popping a blood vessel trying to crack through the shell. This eight ounce package of Seamazz lobster meat (claw, knuckle, and leg) just needs a moment to defrost and it’s ready to eat straight from the bag. And the flavor…it’s fantastic. Sweet and briny, perfect for pairing with some melted butter and lemon juice in a fluffy hot dog bun. Or toss it with some mayo if you like Maine-style lobster rolls.

DiCamillo Bakery Kummelweck Rolls ($25 for 24)

DiCamillo Bakery, we’re begging you: Please open a branch in Los Angeles! During our taste test of weck (aka kummelweck, aka kaiser-like rolls topped with salt and caraway seeds), this New York-based bakery blew us away. Their weck is soft and pillowy inside, and crisp and golden on the outside, with a punch of pure rye flavor from a hefty sprinkling of salt and caraway. We still dream of these kummelweck rolls. And luckily, we don’t have to dream too much, because $25 gets you two dozen rolls, meaning our freezer is fully stocked at the moment.

Kuju Coffee Medium Roast Basecamp Blend ($14 for 6 pour overs)

Need a pick-me-up? Kuju Coffee will go beyond picking you up and practically catapult you into your day. While these pour-over coffee packets may be about $2.33 per cup, they’re  worth it. The coffee is strong, with a boldness that borders on espresso-like levels of oomph. The pour-over aspect is also a plus, too. The coffee brews quickly, you can make just one cup at a time, and you can control what kind of coffee you want it to be. Add a little water and sip this like espresso; add a lot and—voila—you have an at-home Americano. Hot tip: These pouches are perfect for travel; don’t settle for the crummy coffee in your motel room ever again.

Whole Foods Lake Whitefish Caviar ($10)

At first glance, we didn’t expect much from this Whole Foods caviar. But WOW, looks can be deceiving. It’s salty, it’s minerally, and it had the strongest caviar flavor of anything we tried in our taste test. Pop out the creme fraiche and treat yourself! It’s a splurge compared to other groceries, but this is a pretty good deal for decent caviar.

Dumpling Daughter Spicy Sweet Soy Secret Sauce ($10)

This is is a dumpling sauce, yes, but it’s so good, you’re going to want to put it on everything. Dumplings. Noodles. You name it. It’s sweet, it’s spicy, it’s savory, and it’s made with such simple ingredients, we couldn’t help but give the ingredient list a triple take. Plus, it’s restaurant quality—and we’re not just saying that. Dumpling Daughter is a restaurant in Boston and they serve this sauce! Luckily, you don’t have to “pahk the cah in Hahvahd Yahd” to try it; you just need an Amazon account and your credit “cahd.”
