All the Classic Cape Cod Chip Flavors, Ranked

Cape Cod chips are like a vacation to the Cape for your mouth. They’re crunchy, flavorful, and a little greasy in the best way possible.

Cape Cod started frying up chips on July 4, 1980, (truly the most patriotic way to celebrate our country) when two small business owners joined forces and opened up a storefront in Hyannis, MA. Now, you can get Cape Cod chips all over the country. Thank goodness! These are delicious chips.

I’ve always liked that Cape Cod chips are ultra crunchy, but I hadn’t tried many flavors. Now, I’m an expert in Cape Cod chip flavors. We tasted all the classic flavors of regular Cape Cod chips and ranked them from worst to best. See you on the Cape!

CAPE COD CHIPS

Sweet Mesquite Barbecue

Sweet Mesquite Barbecue

These are a real snooze. They aren’t bad, they’re just boring. The barbeque flavor is so mild and I don’t really get sweet or mesquite. There are way better barbeque potato chips out there.

Sea Salt & Vinegar

Sea Salt & Vinegar

Another mediocre—but not bad—chip. The flavor is so mild. If you like the idea of salt and vinegar chips but can’t handle tang, this would be a good chip for you. That being said, I don’t know why you’d want salt and vinegar chips without tang.

CAPE COD CHIPS

Sea Salt

Original Sea Salt

This is a nice plain potato chip. They’re not too oily or salty and, like all Cape Cod chips, they have a wonderful texture. Unfortunately for them, the plain just can’t stack up to the deliciousness of some of the best Cape Cod chips flavors.

CAPE COD CHIP FLAVORS

Dark Russet

Dark Russet

These dark russet potato chips are nice. They taste like real potatoes. If I went to someone’s house and they served these and then told me they fried up some russet potato skins at home, I’d believe it. They are so rustic. If you’re looking for a Cape Cod chip to serve with dip, these are the ones.

CAPE COD CHIPS

Sour Cream & Onion

Sour Cream & Onion

I love these sour cream and onion Cape Cod chips. They are so packed with onion-y flavor. Are they the best sour cream and onion chips on the market? No. Are they a dang good Cape Cod chip flavor? Yes! I would absolutely buy these again.

Sea Salt & Black Pepper

Sea Salt & Cracked Black Pepper

I wouldn’t think to pick up a bag of sea salt and cracked black pepper chips because they sound a little boring, but they’re not. They’re wonderful! The pepper flavor is so strong and fresh. They’re not too salty. I would eat these on their own, but I also want to bread chicken cutlets with these crushed-up chips. Chips! Chips! Chips!

Sweet & Spicy Jalapeño

Sweet & Spicy Jalapeño

A perfect 10/10 chip. These are the best Cape Cod chip flavor, they’re incredible chips in general. They are actually a little sweet and a little spicy, as promised in the name. They have a slight fruitiness thanks to the jalapeño. These are great alone, with dip, or shoved into a turkey sandwich.
