Over the summer, Chips Ahoy launched a “glitch” of a mystery flavor. These new soft-baked Chewy cookies (the best kind of Chips Ahoy cookie, don’t @ me) have been on shelves for months with no hint as to their true flavor profile… until now. Chips Ahoy has chosen Halloween 2026 to pull the Scooby-Doo villain mask off these cookies and see what they really are. Before we get to the grand spoileriffic reveal, let’s try to figure out what these taste like the old-fashioned way: by tasting them.

Chips Ahoy Chewy Mystery Glitch Cookies Review
Chips Ahoy Mystery Flavor

New Chips Ahoy Cookie!

Pros: For a mystery flavor, these new Chips Ahoy cookies taste very simple. It’s hard to discern whether the mystery flavor is baked into the cookie itself or the chips. Either way, that flavor is tame compared to previous mystery flavors like Fruity Pebbles or Banana Pudding. I’m getting a mixture of vanilla, maybe some marshmallow, and the generic taste of “baked good” that’s either an intentional addition or just a byproduct of… being a baked good.

I dug around online to see what folks have been guessing, and one in particular really stood out as plausible: Vanilla Moon Pie. I don’t think this cookie is marshmallow-y enough to really deliver on that concept, but it’s the guess I feel best about.

Cons: True story, these would have ranked a full point higher if Chips Ahoy hadn’t brought back their fantastic Hot Cocoa cookies just a few weeks ago. Folks, this mystery cookie just can’t hold a candle to one of our best holiday cookies.

So what’s the Chips Ahoy Mystery Flavor?

It’s official, folks: the flavor of Chips Ahoy Chewy Mystery Glitch Cookies is Cake Batter Bytes. These cookies feature “a sweet cake batter flavor with white chocolate chips in a chewy cookie.” (So the flavor was in the cookie!) The “Bytes” of it all is very fitting since the branding from day one has been digitally themed, but I sympathize with the folks online who assumed the “out of this world” callout in the cookie’s promotion was alluding to an eventual Vanilla Moon Pie flavor reveal.
