Yes, we’re all languidly counting down the last days of precious, perspiration-inducing summer. Sunsets are a bit shorter. Shorts are a bit longer. And, whether we like it or not, our latte selection is about to get a bit spicier.

As much as we look forward to fall, with all its perfunctory crispness and the sort of fake-wisdom look you get from wearing a scarf, we can’t let summer go without a proper salute. And apparently the good folks at Sonic agree with us because today only (literally, just for today, August 13th), they’re selling you as many golden brown delicious corn dogs you want for just 99 cents.
Cheap, Corny, Sublimely Simple
Ah, the corn dog―America’s iconic, confounding meat on a stick. Though its exact origins are disputed, we do know corn dogs first came about somewhere in the ’30s or ’40s (and were licensed by at least one clever, legally-minded innovator as “Pronto Pups”). If we had to guess, we’d say someone probably tried selling a hot dog at a carnival, where everything legally must be battered and fried.
However they came into existence, they’re here―and they’re very American, summery, sometimes frozen, but today only, at Sonic, they’ll be fresh-fried and very cheap. Clearly (and deliciously) Sonic’s trying to get back in the game in a couple ways, and with a 99-cent deal, Sonic knows it’s gonna be frying up a lot of these, and since corn dogs have that kind of sublime culinary simplicity, they’re hard to screw up―point being, you’re likely to get a good dog for your dollar. So grab a buck and motor on over to your local Sonic to rediscover the sweet strange glory of the corn dog before summer’s over.
The Meat Deets: Fine Print on Sonic’s Corn Dog Deal
Of course corn dog deals have legal terms and conditions! (What kind of pure and simple world do you live in?) Seriously before you put on your “this shirt can handle some spilled mustard” best and head over to Sonic, just a quick heads up to the fine print: yes, you can order unlimited corn dogs, or at least there’s nothing saying you can’t. Each corn dog costs $0.99, plus tax and any “add-ons” (like aforementioned toppings that will inevitably spill onto your shirt) cost extra.
The discount is also automatic―meaning, you don’t even actually have to say “I’ll have the 99 cent corn dog.” However, the deal is not valid on delivery orders or with any combo or other discounts. But it’s still meat on a stick. For less than a dollar.
