Frank’s RedHot Makes Dipping Sauces Now and We Tried Them

Frank’s RedHot is the king of Buffalo wing sauce. Buffalo buffalo may buffalo Buffalo buffalo (a real English sentence I learned as part of my very useful linguistics degree), but Frank’s RedHot buffaloes most other Buffalo wing sauces out of the water. And now Franks has branched out beyond spicy wing sauces to dip a toe into the world of all-purpose “Dip’n” sauces. Today I tried all three of the new Frank’s RedHot Dip’n Sauces—Roasted Garlic, Buffalo Ranch, and Sweet & Tangy Golden—and, spoiler alert, they buffaloed it out of the park.

Frank’s RedHot Dip’n Roasted Garlic Sauce

Pros: This sauce is a McFrickin flavor bomb. It is extremely roasted garlicky, umami, and rich, with a distinct tang and a light kick. I tried it straight off a spoon and on a mozzarella stick (both were great), but this sauce would also be great on a peppery steak sandwich with melty brie and arugula or as a dunk for your fave chicken nuggies. Between the rich umami flavor and tang, it almost tastes like a fancy caesar dressing in the best possible way. Buy this. Cherish it. Treat it as your own child (or whatever people normally do with good sauces).

Cons: Not a one.

Frank’s RedHot Dip’n Sweet & Tangy Golden Sauce

Pros: This one is super interesting! It tastes like an extremely sweet, lightly spicy BBQ sauce. At first, it mostly tastes like a solid sweet BBQ sauce and nothing else, but the aftertaste that lingers almost reminded me of boba in its syrupy brown sugary glory. The golden sauce is sweet, complex, and mildly spicy—just like me in high school.

Cons: I could do with this one being even just 10% less sweet. I love love love a sweet BBQ sauce, but Frank’s Golden sauce has an almost confectionary aftertaste I think could be dialed back a bit.

Frank’s RedHot Dip’n Buffalo Ranch Sauce

Pros: Frank’s Buffalo Ranch sauce is not as tangy as the Roasted Garlic Sauce, which I thought was odd given that it’s ranch-based. Instead, it leans on the sweeter side. This is the spiciest of the three (though only by a little), and its delayed kick caught me off guard in the best way possible. To me, this tastes more like Kraft Mac & Cheese sauce mixed with sugar and buffalo sauce than it tastes like ranch, but hey—it’s still a really good sauce.

Cons: Frankly (pun intended), Frank’s Buffalo Ranch could stand to have a bit more of that classic savory, salty, garlicky ranch flavor. It’s a bit sweet and a bit cheesy for a buffalo ranch, but again, this is not a bad sauce. None of them are.
