Your favorite college student’s favorite study-break snack just got an update: these cookies have had their chips replaced with chunks about three times bigger. Insomnia Cookies was nice enough to send over a gift card; let’s find out whether chunky is the right choice.

Insomnia Cookies expects these updated recipes to be in use at all locations by October. That said, your local shop may work through certain ingredients more slowly than others; for example, none of the stores near me had the updated Peanut Butter Cup Deluxe recipe for sale when I went cookie hunting for this piece.
- Chocolate Chunk Brownie by Insomnia Cookies Review
-
True to the title, this jumbo brownie has respectably chunky hunks of chocolate throughout. As a soft brownie fanatic, I found the XL size of this chocolate behemoth worked against itself. The brownie quickly turned into a crumbly, stiff brick rather than the advertised fudgy/gooey texture. It’s hard to be unhappy with a brownie, but I would pick any of the (cheaper!) cookies you’ll soon read about over this particular treat.

- White Chocolate Chunk Macadamia Insomnia Cookie Review
-
I’ve always loved a white chocolate macadamia cookie, so I was glad to see this recipe get some attention in this menu refresh. Insomnia’s take is a step above the rest thanks to an added coconuttiness that meshes super well with the white chocolate chunks and macadamia nuts. While the brand regularly offers wild and wacky recipes like PB&J or Cap’n Crunch, sometimes all you need is an elevated classic–this delivers everything you want and more.

- Peanut Butter Chunk Insomnia Cookie Review
-
Don’t let the name mislead you: Insomnia Cookies’ Peanut Butter Chunk contains no peanut bits to throw off this super-soft texture. These peanut butter chunks start with a crunch and quickly turn into creamy nutty magic. The only thing that could improve this cookie would be some chocolate… which actually exists on the Insomnia Cookies menu as that last updated chunky cookie I couldn’t find! Stay tuned for an update.

- Confetti Chunk Deluxe Insomnia Cookie Review
-
I thought the difference between these “Deluxe” cookies and the standard offerings was more mix-ins and maybe some flashier ingredients. Imagine my surprise when I opened the box and saw this sprinkle-packed cookie was twice as big as the others! Fitting for a cookie that screams “birthday cake“–you could absolutely share this rich vanilla-chunked sugar cookie for any celebration worth treating.
On the value front, this is the best of Insomnia Cookies’ new chunky lineup; that said, one flavor did beat out this fantastic take on Funfetti.

- Cookies ‘N Cream Chunk Insomnia Cookie Review
-
This fan-favorite cookie was a frequent limited-time offering as recently as last year; luckily for all of us, this is now a permanent offering. The blend of non-specific chocolate sandwich cookies and jumbo white chocolate chunks makes for a soft, super-rich treat that’s somehow more chocolatey than actual full-chocolate cookies I’ve had before. Now, how do we get Jeni’s or Van Leeuwen to use these cookies in a Cookies & Cream Squared ice cream?
