Kraft makes a lot of stuff (Kool-Aid and Jell-O being just two of ‘em) – but in the absence of some other product coming along and completely changing everything we think about this brand, it’ll forever be known for mac and cheese. And there’s nothing wrong with that! Its mac is a classic for a reason, and it still finds ways to stretch its boundaries, like with its new flavors this year, its protein mac and cheese, and perhaps strangest of all, its mac and cheesecake

Do all of those variations and new product angles betray a restlessness, though? Is Kraft itching to do something else and make its mark elsewhere? Apparently so, if this new Halloween candy is anything to go by. Or, we should say, candies. Let’s discuss.

Kraft Green Apple Flavored Milk Chocolate Caramel Thins

Last week, via @candyhunting, we learned that Kraft has just released new Green Apple Flavored Milk Chocolate Caramel Thins, which are now headed to Walmart for the Halloween season. Made with Kraft Caramels, a slightly overshadowed product in Kraft’s portfolio (overshadowed by the mac and cheese of it all, despite the caramels being almost a century old), these thins are infused with apple flavor and come in 120-gram bags, with each candy individually wrapped.

Now, personally, I find apple and chocolate combinations a little difficult to get on board with, but that’s not what most people are talking about with these. Instead, they’re wondering why Kraft has made a Halloween candy to begin with. “Kraft? This is weird,” said one person in @candyhunting’s comment section, while another said they thought these were made of cheese, such is the strength of the association of the Kraft brand with cheesy noodles. Another person led with the delightful pun “Witch Kraft,” which I obviously had to highlight. Bravo.

Kraft Halloween Candy: A New Venture?

Kraft’s Green Apple Flavored Milk Chocolate Caramel Thins aren’t even the first Halloween candy the brand has released this year. A couple of weeks ago, it dropped two new caramels, in pumpkin spice and caramel corn flavors. It’s not anything new for Kraft to drop seasonal candies, but it definitely feels like there’s been more of a push by the brand this year to buff up its Halloween stock. So, is this a new direction for it? Will we all be handing out Kraft candies in Halloweens to come? Has it cottoned on to the fact that more and more people want Halloween candy year-round, and it’s jumping in with both feet? Couldn’t possibly say, but we wouldn’t count it out.
