If You Love These 4 Monster Energy Drinks, We’ve Got Bad News

Earlier this week, we all got to celebrate some good news that hit my inbox: details on the next eight months of Monster Energy releases. Unfortunately, as the law of equivalent exchange taught us, good news can only happen in the space that bad news creates. In this particular context, that means certain existing drinks have to go away to make room for new ones. Despite how it may look, store shelves are not infinitely expandable; Monster Energy pays for a lot of space, and the drinks that take up said space need to earn their keep. We’ve heard that drinks from four different Monster Energy sublines are being discontinued soon to make room for flashier new flavors.

Here’s the obligatory asterisk: Monster Energy hasn’t confirmed anything I’m about to tell you. That said, this information comes to us from a historically reliable source. (Monster Energy also doesn’t make a habit of announcing discontinuations formally; broadly speaking, brands don’t love drawing attention to anything that might scare a shareholder.) Let’s get into the drinks we’re reasonably certain are on death’s door.

Every Monster Energy Drink Being Discontinued By 2027:

Monster Ultra Fantasy Ruby Red

The most surprising flavor on this list of rumored discontinuations is definitely Monster Ultra Fantasy Ruby Red. This zero-sugar offering was released just last year and, as far as I was aware, had built up a solid fanbase who preferred this ruby red grapefruit flavor to Ultra White’s more generic citrus vibes. Judging by the number of angry folks in my comments section on Instagram, the loss of this flavor will end up inspiring petitions and “never again!” fake boycotts.

Java Monster Café Latte

Back in 2023, Monster released this comparatively-generic coffee-and-cream variant in their coffee line. Considering there are already two different vanilla bean variants on Monster’s coffee line, I’m not sure this extra-creamy take is specifically serving enough people to warrant taking up shelf space. Of all the drinks we’re losing in the next few months, I think this one will incite the fewest tears.

Juice Monster Rio Punch

In late 2024, Monster released this papaya/vanilla ice cream/black currant Energy Juice drink. While the “Brazilian carnival in a can” promised a blend of real fruit juice and spice, that party seems to have ended early. Just 2 years later, this flavor is slated for discontinuation. It’s probably not a coincidence that this flavor ranked at the bottom of our Juice Monster ranking…

Rehab Monster Green Tea

Rehab Monster is the smallest subline from the three stripes of energy drinks; this discontinuation will bring the quantity of options down from four to three. While the Arnold Palmer, Peach, and Wild Berry Tea drinks aren’t going anywhere, the newest (and most classically “tea”) Green Tea flavor didn’t garner enough monetary fanfare since launching in 2024 to stick around. Who would have guessed that the green tea crowd wouldn’t be interested in an energy drink take on their classically-lower-caffeine tea of choice?
