The 20th Bajaversary continues with yet another new Baja Blast flavor: Mtn Dew Baja Laguna Lemonade. Featuring a cool parrot wearing a yellow hat, a necklace, and a somewhat confusing beak ring on the label, Baja Laguna Lemonade purports to be mango-lemonade flavored. It’s very, very, very yellow (like, post-vitamin pee yellow). And it’s seasonal—so you better grab it fast.

We had nice things to say about the new Baja Point Break Punch, but will Baja Laguna Lemonade receive similar praise? Read on for the full review.

New Baja Flavor!

Mtn Dew Baja Laguna Lemonade

I’ve tried so many Mtn Dew variations recently that I forgot that the original Mtn Dew flavor is citrus. So, it was refreshing to get back to a zingy, zippy, tart Mtn Dew flavor. I liked Baja Point Break Punch but, thanks to that acidity, I think Baja Laguna Lemonade might be even better.

Pros: This new Baja Blast flavor actually tastes like mango! It’s rare to get a Mtn Dew flavor that really tastes like the fruit featured on the label. But this one pulls it off. There aren’t a lot of mango sodas out there, so this one fills a niche. It tastes like orange soda mixed with mango. And while there’s no actual lemonade flavor, there is that racy acidity I was talking about. It would be great with some coconut rum—just ask that parrot on the label. He’ll agree with me.

Cons: If you aren’t a mango fan, you won’t like Baja Laguna Lemonade. It is really mango-centric. I do wish there was a bit more actual lemonade flavor in the mix; that would have really made this soda sing. And if you really like the original Mtn Dew Baja Blast, this soda might seem like too much of a departure to belong in the Baja line-up. Baja Blast is super sweet and not very tangy. This tastes more like a riff on classic Mtn Dew than Baja Blast—but that’s why I love it. Baja Blast diehards, let me know what you think in the comments.

Justine Sterling

Hi! I’m the editor-in-chief of Sporked. I will never turn down a fresh-shucked oyster but I’ll also leap at whatever new product Reese’s releases and I love a Tostitos Hint of Lime, even if there is no actual lime in the ingredients. Why you should trust me: I have been writing about food and beverages for well over a decade and am an avid at-home cook and snacker. I began my career writing about fine dining and recipes, moved into cocktails and spirits, and now I talk about groceries. If you can eat it or drink it, I’ve probably written about it. What I buy every week: Trader Joe’s dried okra. Appleton Farms prosciutto from Aldi. Some sort of Trader Joe’s cheese (I’m into the aged gouda at the moment). Frozen waffles (usually the Eggo Cinnamon Toast Minis). Spindrift water (loving the Cosmopolitan right now). Favorite ranking: Smoked salmon. Imagine me as Scrooge McDuck but instead of coins I’m diving into a vault of slippery smoked salmon slices. Pure joy. I also found some real steals in that taste test! Least favorite ranking: Canned oysters. I had such high hopes for this but it quickly became a chore. The kitchen smelled like an uncleaned aquarium.
