I have an expectation when I walk into a Trader Joe’s. I want to be bombarded with mouthwatering snacks that will tempt to throw my diet right out the window. Forget the knockoff Kraft mac and cheese or take-out-less pad see ew, and bring me the chili & lime tortilla chips and Joe-Joe’s! I need Trader Joe’s to start embracing their status as a pillar of snack culture again, because they’ve been straying from the truth. The good news is that they’re returning to their roots with these tantalizing butter cookies.
French butter cookies are crispy, crumbly, and (obviously) buttery cookies with a dash of sweetness. They’re known for their sandy texture, and Trader Joe’s really took that to heart. You can see the cookie innards start to crumble when you take even the smallest bite of these beauties. Thankfully, the chocolate coating plays its part well by holding the cookie together. I wanted to taste the coating and cookie individually so I could write about the virtues each, but they’re really fused together and I don’t have the space for a surgery setup in my apartment. So I’ll talk about them as a single entity because that’s what they are, after all. And they’re good!
