Santa Gets A Makeover In This New Oreo Candy

Last week, we reported on the relatively early arrival of Reese’s new festive candy mix – but what a difference seven days makes. Since then, it feels like the Christmas snack and candy floodgates have opened, with options from the likes of General Mills and Pillsbury coming thick and fast, and every day we’re seeing more and more teasers and announcements coming through. That’s not to say that Oreo’s new candy, which we’ve just heard about, is late – we’re still only in September – but there’s a fine line between moving too quickly and moving too slowly.

Anyway, all of this is to say that Oreo has a new, Santa-fied candy coming out this year. Here’s what you should know. 

Oreo Santas

Yesterday, @candyhunting announced that Frankford Candy will be bringing out new Oreo Santas for the holiday season. These little candy bars look pretty fun: Each individually wrapped piece contains a dark chocolaty Santa shell, with Oreo cookie pieces and créme inside. They’ll come in 198-gram packs, so likely around six to eight Oreo Santas in each one. 

These are, essentially, just a differently shaped version of Frankford’s current Oreo Ghosts (which we were talking about at the end of July – now THAT’S early), one of the cookie giant’s Halloween offerings this year. Those have been going down a spooky storm with customers, and we’d imagine these will do the same. Indeed, people seem to be pretty excited about Oreo Santas so far, and while they’re not reinventing the wheel, I get it. Fun Christmas vibe? Check. Filled chocolate shell? Always a winner. Not a lot to dislike here, unless you detest Oreos, of course.

The Christmas Spirit

Unless I’m totally mistaken, this is the first Oreo item we’ve seen this year in the brand’s Christmas collection, but (unless I’m totally mistaken again), we can expect more. Last year, we were graced with the return of Oreo Snowballs, and it wouldn’t be a huge surprise if they came back again, given their popularity. Oreo Santas, it should be said, are very similar, just with a slightly different flavored shell and an alternative shape. The concept, though, is the same. In terms of bona fide Oreo cookies, we’ll also probably see a limited flavor or two coming out of Santa’s workshop and heading to shelves. Oreo Santas, meanwhile, will probably start appearing towards the end of Oreo Ghosts’ tenure — so in a couple of weeks.
