There’s Mythical Hot Dog at Pink’s, Here’s How to Make It at Home

Usually, the Mythical Kitchen team’s wild culinary creations are enjoyed only by those within the walls of the Mythical offices. But now the world (well, okay, anyone in Los Angeles) has a chance to taste a Mythical Kitchen original. Behold, the Mythical Muncher Hot Dog, now available at the famed Pink’s Hot Dogs in Hollywood. It’s a saucy, spicy, sloppy ode to Rhett & Link, as well as Josh Scherer and the rest of the Mythical team.

Here’s what’s on it: a nine-inch hot dog, nacho cheese, bacon, jalapeños, ranch, french fries, and no tomatoes (in honor of our very own Link’s aversion to them).

But what if you don’t feel like flying into LAX or even hopping on the 101 to get a taste of this exclusive dog? Make your own at home! Here’s everything you need to make the best version of the Mythical Muncher Hot Dog in the comfort of your own kitchen.

The Bun: Bimbo Golden Hot Dog Buns

The buns at Pink’s are sturdy and these Bimbo buns are too. And, like Pink’s buns, they lean a little more bready than bun-y. They’re spongy rather than squishy.

These might not be precisely nine inches, but they are absolutely massive. And they are delicious to boot. In our hot dog taste test, we loved how salty and well-spiced they taste, plus, Kirkland hot dogs (that’s Costco’s brand) can really handle a ton of toppings.

The Nacho Cheese: El Mexicano Nacho Cheese Sauce

This is simply the best store bought nacho cheese you can buy. It’s gooey and creamy and a little bit spicy. Plus, it’s super cheap. And you can even get it in a six-pound can if you’re making Mythical Muncher dogs for a crowd.

The Bacon: Nueske’s Applewood Smoked Bacon

Nueske makes a classic sandwich bacon. It’s super smoky, so it stands up to all the other flavors on the Mythical Muncher Hot Dog. Cook it until it’s real crispy, then crumble it onto the dog. (Go ahead and cook up an extra strip or two for snacking.)

The Ranch: Marie’s Creamy Ranch Dressing + Dip

This ranch is creamy and herby—it tastes homemade. But the reason why we think it would be the best ranch for a truly Mythical hot dog is because of its texture. It’s thick enough that it won’t drip everywhere, but thin enough that you can drizzle it.

The Jalapenos: Wickles Wicked Jalapeño Relish

You could just add a handful of pickled jalapeño rings (we generally like Mezzetta for such things), but we think a spoonful or two of this jalapeño relish from Wickles could actually improve upon Pink’s Mythical Muncher Hot Dog. It’s bright and tangy and spicy and sweet—and, because it’s diced up, it’s easier to get into every bite than jalapeño rings.

The Fries: Grown in Idaho Hand Cut Style Fries

These are restaurant-quality french fries. They’re long and golden and they get super-crispy in the oven. They’ll provide the perfect textural contrast as a final garnish on your Mythical Muncher hot dog.
