Gut Check! Rhett & Link Try Every Lay’s Flavor

On today’s episode of Good Mythical Morning, Rhett & Link tasted and scored every Original, Wavy, Stax, and Poppables Lay’s out of one hundred. Link had his handy-dandy ranking chart with him. So, when it comes time to decide the final four, will their taste buds finally work in harmony, or will their friendchip be put to the test? Here’s what went down in the most recent Gut Check.

Salt & Vinegar (Rhett: 84 | Link: 63)

“This reminds me of my wife,” Link said when he first tried the chip. Uhh you good there, Link? What he meant to say is that Salt & Vinegar Lay’s are his wife’s favorite. But still, memories of his wife simply weren’t enough to convince him that this Lay’s flavor deserved a spot in the top three. Rhett, on the other hand, absolutely loved these chips and just couldn’t resist “the tang.” He was appalled by Link’s refusal to include it on the pedestal, especially since Link had scored Rhett’s favorite Lay’s chip so low that it failed to enter the final four. He spoke directly to the audience, saying, “Hey, you know who you are. These should be on the pedestal.” So, it’s in the top three, if only in Rhett’s mind.

Classic (Rhett: 81, Link: 89)

The guys loved the Classic Lay’s. “It’s so thin. It’s light, it’s buttery, it’s salty. It’s so perfect,” Link said. He later added, “It’s a perfect chip.” While Rhett agreed in a sense—“solid chip” were the words he used—he felt that Salt & Vinegar deserved the third spot because it packs so much flavor. But Link’s love of the Classic Lay’s won out: “This is amazing. It’s classic.” There was no room for discussion.

Funyuns Onions Wavy (Rhett: 86, Link: 70)

The guys were unaware that the Funyuns Onion Wavy Lay’s existed, and it shocked them both. “That’s nice,” Link admitted when he took a bite. Rhett, who’d found himself in a bit of a food coma, suddenly shouted, “MAN!” He admitted to being completely taken off guard by the chips. For Link, the chip was nearly perfect: “If they put this on a thin chip, it might be the hands-down winner.” In fact, when it came time to decide first place, Link was adamant that it be the Funyun Onions Wavy Lay’s. “Clearly, the Wavy Funyuns have more crunch and they have more flavor,” he said. But Rhett ignored him, deciding his opinion had been ignored long enough. Incidentally, the Sporked crew loves these, too.

Sour Cream & Onion (Rhett: 88, Link: 90)

Rhett crowned Sour Cream & Onion Lay’s “the best Lay.” The guys didn’t have too many words for it. According to Link, they were “on record saying this is the best chip many years ago.” And it held up for them. “It’s mild, it’s fabulous,” Link said. And though it wasn’t his favorite of the four, he didn’t put up a fight when Rhett put it in first place.
