Our Honest Review of Snickers Butterscotch Scoop, a New-ish Flavor

I’m not sure how we missed this one, folks. Back in the summer of 2023, Mars Wrigley released a brand new Snickers flavor that snuck under all our noses. Snickers Butterscotch Scoop enjoyed a few months of exclusivity at Walmart before expanding to its current status as “one of the Snickers” next to Pecan and all those fruity foreign ones.

So, did they just replace Caramel Snickers with Butterscotch Scoop Snickers? That would make sense, wouldn’t it? Caramel and butterscotch are very similar, both being brown sticky concoctions made by heating a sugar and a dairy product. While you’d think this would be a simple ingredient swap, things are never that easy. Instead, Snickers Butterscotch Scoop is made up of peanuts, milk chocolate, butterscotch-flavored nougat, and caramel. But is it any good? Here’s our official review of this semi-new Snickers flavor.

Pros: As stated previously, this Snickers flavor consists of chocolate, peanuts, caramel, and nougat. It’d take a herculean effort for this to taste bad, but in case you were worried, this does clear the bar of “good.” It is definitely different from the classic Snickers flavor. The flavor of the chocolate coating is almost completely undetectable thanks to butterscotch and caramel. 

Cons: It’s actually mostly caramel. The butterscotch is absolutely lost under the caramel. I can tell there’s supposed to be butterscotch in this somewhere, but considering that butterscotch is only a flavor while the caramel is actually, y’know, an ingredient? The butterscotch-flavored nougat doesn’t stand a chance.

The picture on the packaging makes it clear they were going for the flavor of butterscotch sauce over vanilla ice cream. I think they’d have pulled that off if they’d replaced the caramel with butterscotch goo and swapped in a vanilla-flavored nougat. The peanuts only add texture; no natural peanut flavor can make it past the brick wall of butterscotch and caramel. Still, it’s a Snickers with caramel and that’s pretty good.

Where can I find this new Snickers flavor for myself?

While Snickers Butterscotch Scoop started as a Walmart exclusive, you can now find it anywhere Snickers products are sold. I found mine at a Sheetz gas station, but I’ve seen these at plenty of grocers and supermarkets.
