Trader Joe’s really knows how to make a splash with its products – which is particularly impressive, given that it never announces any of them in advance. The grocery chain is notorious for dropping delicious items out of the blue and relying on word-of-mouth to create buzz. It certainly succeeds on that last front: Recent releases like its shrimp chips and its new potato cheese sticks (which we tried) generated a lot of chatter online, and while they may not be universal successes, we definitely all know about them now.

Its latest incognito drop, though, has managed to get people chatting about it, and it looks like it’s one of the most beloved releases in recent memory. Introducing Trader Joe’s Greek Style Chicken Salad. Grab a cracker, and let’s dive in.
Trader Joe’s Greek Style Chicken Salad
News of the release of TJ’s new Greek Style Chicken Salad arrived at our doorstep, as all good things do these days, via Reddit. To confirm that this wasn’t an elaborate hoax that we would subsequently be disappointed by, we duly checked the Trader Joe’s website, and – yep, it’s there!
And honestly, it sounds good. Trader Joe’s says that this salad (which costs $5.49 for a ten-ounce tub) is “zesty, tart, herby, toothsome, hearty, and phenomenally full-flavored, all at once.” Judging by the ingredients of pulled white chicken meat, onions, artichoke hearts, sundried tomatoes, Kalamata olives, garlic, parsley, dill, mayo, and lemon juice, it won’t have too much trouble achieving all of those flavor-related adjectives. This salad would be perfect heaped onto crackers or piled into a sandwich. I also suspect it’d make the base for a very easy pasta salad. Just add your favorite shape.
Writing this product description, all I can say is that I feel very smug about the fact that I booked flights to Greece this September. Until we can all make it to the Mediterranean country, though, Trader Joe’s has us covered with this salad.
And It’s Really That Good?
According to customers, yes, it is. “Helen of Troy or Hedone herself would choose this Chicken Salad. It’s that freakin good,” said the original poster who revealed its presence at TJ’s on Reddit. Another person stated that they “finished [their] first tub in one day and can’t stop thinking about it.”
That said, like any other supermarket product, the Greek Style Chicken Salad has its fair share of detractors. Some say that its texture is a little off, with the sundried tomatoes being too distracting – and others say that the onions are too chunky. However, the broad consensus on this salad is that Trader Joe’s has nailed it.
