We Tried La Colombe’s New Salted Caramel Apple Latte (& They Nailed It)

Gone are the days of the pumpkin spice latte. Well, I guess they’re still here but man is apple trying to really overthrow their seat at the throne. La Colombe is doing their part to help apple win the war by launching their newest limited-time seasonal ready-to-drink draft latte―salted caramel apple.

The drink pairs the nostalgic fall flavor of caramel apples with a hint of sea salt and espresso roast cold brew. The pre-canned version comes with whole milk added in and is served up in a very on the nose green apple and caramel brown colored can.

Our Thoughts

Pros: The flavor is spot on. If anything, it teetered into apple pie at times but once you really focus on it you can get back to the first notes of caramel apple. It’s like they blended up one right off of the stick, threw some milk and espresso in, and canned it right up. I’m actually impressed. I was fully expecting it to be more of “an attempt was made” kind of situation.

Cons: They really nailed the intended flavor of the drink. I’m just struggling to figure out if it works. I will admit my bias in that it’s a personal preference to not want to taste too much of the espresso in a drink. Even beyond that, I think it just does too much to throw the caramel apple off.

The drink starts with a beautifully smooth caramel apple taste which is quickly spoiled by the espresso on the back end. Afterwards, all you’re left with is that espresso taste―left wishing you could be savoring a cool caramel apple all morning long. Oh, what could have been.

I think it’s also worth noting that this drink comes with dairy milk in it, which I also prefer. But if you’re making a ready-to-drink latte that can’t handle substitutes, I would think the move would be to use an alternative milk. I’m not the coffee company though so they probably know best.

You’re also able to add in the salted caramel apple flavor to a matcha, latte, draft latte, or any drink of your choice!
