Yogurt bowls are having a moment. As the temperature shoots up, more and more people are looking for a breakfast that cools them down, that doesn’t weigh too heavily in the morning, and that’s both easy to put together and nutritious – and these bowls fit the bill. I’m on a yogurt bowl kick myself: I like to think of it as my own personal canvas first thing in the morning, to ignite my creativity before the workday ahead. In case anyone cares, I’m currently rocking a combo of mixed berries, banana, chia pudding, high-protein granola, and walnuts in mine. It’s delicious.

But if you’re starting to tire of your own go-to yogurt bowl recipe, there are likely paths you haven’t trodden just yet with it. Here are a couple of yogurt bowl ideas that will give your morning meal a new lease of life.

S’Mores Yogurt Bowl

This one might be a step away from the classic fruit-forward flavors of an archetypal yogurt bowl, but s’mores fans will love it. Start with a base of vanilla Greek yogurt, and then mix in some marshmallow-flavored protein powder (if you don’t have any on hand, stand by, as there’s another way to do this – but I’d recommend trying to track it down if you can). Then, top the yogurt with dark chocolate chips and crushed graham crackers.

This is a yogurt bowl that perhaps works better as a dessert than a breakfast – it can be a bit sweet first thing in the morning – but the flavor similarity it has to s’mores is pretty impressive. As mentioned, if you don’t have any marshmallow-flavored protein powder, you can top vanilla yogurt with mini marshmallows instead, but a lower-sugar marshmallow powder, like the one made by GHOST, will keep the sugar levels a little more moderate here. You can also sub out the graham crackers for granola if you wish, and throw in some sliced strawberries for freshness.

Savory Yogurt Bowl

Yep, it’s a thing – and a delicious one at that. By turning your yogurt bowl savory, you can really lean into a Mediterranean flavor profile and transform the bowl into a super-high-protein, satisfying breakfast that’s begging to be spooned up onto a slice of toast. The central idea is that, instead of using fruit, you opt for vegetables and a spicier element, which can be achieved by sprinkling za’atar over the top or scattering a couple of handfuls of spiced chickpeas. The Mediterranean Dish has a great recipe that uses chickpeas, eggs, cucumbers, tomatoes, salt, and olive oil, as well as za’atar or dukkah to finish things off.

Cookies & Cream Yogurt Bowl

Sort of a cross between a yogurt bowl and an ice cream, this is another one that would be dynamite as a dessert – but which you could also serve for breakfast, if the cookie-eating spirit takes you first thing in the morning. It’s simple, too, and you have options for your base: You can opt for a simple vanilla Greek yogurt, a Greek yogurt with vanilla protein powder, or yogurt with cookies & cream protein powder (depending on how strong you want the cookies & cream flavor to be). Then, just crush up some Oreos, adorn your yogurt bowl with the cookies, and go to town. Is it sweet? Yes. Is it fun? Also yes.
