The Best Things We Ate This Week (May 22-26)

Every week, the Sporked team sidles up to the tasting table and sets out to find the absolute best of the best packaged foods, the gold hidden in the grocery aisles. Each week we’ll bring you five standouts that truly rocked our taste buds and changed our lives—or at least our buying habits. Here are the best things we ate this week.

Sweet Baby Ray’s Maple BBQ Sauce

Sweet Baby Ray’s BBQ sauces are, for the most part, incredible. Not only is this maple BBQ sauce delicious, it’s surprising! I was expecting an overly sweet, pancake syrup-y sauce. What I got was a perfectly balanced sweet and savory BBQ sauce with genuine maple flavor. I will be buying this again.

Lesser Evil Oh My Ghee! Popcorn

Lesser Evil’s Oh My Ghee! popcorn is one of the few bagged popcorns that I would reach for over microwaved popcorn. It doesn’t taste like butter. It tastes like drawn butter. You know, the stuff you get with crab or lobster? It is so flavorful and delicious and I definitely plan to sneak it into a movie theater sometime soon.

Sanzo Calamansi Sparkling Water

To me, seltzer is whatever. It always tastes like the idea of flavor rather than actual flavor. Not Sanzo, though! Their seltzers are made with limited, natural ingredients and taste amazing. This Calamansi (which is a citrus fruit from the Philippines that tastes like a mix of lime and tangerine) is made of just carbonated water and calamansi puree. Sanzo, you have converted me to a seltzer lover!

Specially Selected Dulce De Leche Ice Cream

Never buy expensive, fancy ice cream again. This Aldi dulce de leche ice cream is just as tasty but the price point is a fraction of the fancy brands. The caramel has rich, buttery, burnt notes and is the ideal level of sweetness. The base is creamy. Go buy this now and thank me later.

Natalie’s Strawberry Lemonade

Natalie’s knows how to juice a fruit. Their strawberry lemonade is out of this world. It’s the perfect blend of sweet and tart. Plus, it tastes like actual strawberries and lemon! I don’t know Natalie personally, but I would like to give her a kiss on the mouth (if she’s interested).
