We Tried The Classy New Chocolate Ganache OREO Thins

As I said when I first covered these new OREO cookies, I learned everything I know about chocolate ganache from Chef Carl Casper. After reading our own Will Morgan’s “What is Ganache?” piece here on Sporked, I’m actually more confused about what these OREO cookies are hoping to achieve. Per Will’s explanation, ganache is just chocolate and cream. OREO cookies with chocolate creme have been on shelves for 25 years now, and these Chocolate Ganache cookies claim to be new? How is OREO going to pull off chocolate and cream flavored creme? There’s only one way to find out; let’s crack open these classy cookies.

Chocolate Ganache OREO Thins

Pros: If you like chocolate on top of chocolate, you’ll like these OREOs! The creme is rich and the cookie is cocoa from top to bottom, as you’d expect. While I can’t nail down precisely what makes these different from the classic Chocolate Creme OREOs, I certainly recommend them as the superior Chocolate Creme OREOs. How about we update the original recipe with this new formula?

Cons: In a post-Coca-Cola OREO world, “here’s another chocolate OREO” isn’t particularly groundbreaking. The innovation in the last few OREO Thins flavors have genuinely impressed me; the nicest thing I can say about this OREO is that it’s good. (The real problem is that they haven’t brought back the Coca-Cola cookie collaboration. They were baked with actual Coca-Cola syrup! They were perfect OREO cookies!)

Where can I get Chocolate Ganache OREO Thins for myself?

Luckily for all of us, Chocolate Ganache OREO Thins are a permanent addition to the OREO Thins lineup. We’ll see these alongside the existing little treat-inspired lineup of Irish Creme, Tiramisu, Mint, and Lemon (plus classic and Extra Stuf) anywhere a wide variety of OREOs is sold.

What classy dessert needs the OREO Thins treatment next? I’d love a new Golden OREO Thin in Crème Brûlée, Raspberry Cheesecake, or even Peach Bellini. Let me know your ideas in the comments and let’s see if we can beat OREO at their own game. (Do not suggest Chocolate Mousse, so help me.)
