Coke-Flavored Oreos, an Honest Review

Earlier this year, a little birdy told me a collaboration was coming between Oreo and Coca-Cola. The idea was to bring together their two remarkable flavors and see if they could become something more. Could they work together? While I had my reservations about Oreo-flavored Coke, I was more than ready to try the Coke-flavored Oreos.

Christmas came early when my sample pack arrived from Oreo PR HQ. Per the press release, these new Oreo cookies are made up of the following: one red-colored golden Oreo wafer, creme embedded with popping candy, and a chocolate Oreo wafer infused with real Coca-Cola syrup.

Before we get into the full review of this new Oreo flavor, let me one thing out of the way: I did dip the Coke-flavored Oreo in the Oreo-flavored Coke. And? The overall flavor didn’t change in the slightest. It turns out, if you eat two things that are trying to taste like each other at the same time, you just get both flavors at once. No one can say I didn’t commit to the bit. I’m adding “dedicated” to my CV.

Okay, with that out of the way, here’s what I thought of the new Coke flavored Oreos.

Coca-Cola Oreos

New Oreo Flavor!

Coca-Cola Oreos

Pros: There are so many ways this new Oreo cookie could have gone poorly, but y’all? It is so good. The Coke syrup gives the cookie an uncanny accuracy to the flavor of real Coke. The popping candy mimics the carbonation of Coca-Cola. And, while they aren’t advertised as such, these cookies appear to have a Double Stuf’s worth of creme. We’re really being spoiled with this one, folks.

Cons: I did some kitchen counter surgery on these new Oreos to determine if there was a weak link in this recipe, and I did find a flaw: the red wafer that features the Coke branding. The Coca-Cola syrup-infused wafer and popping candy creme are doing all the heavy lifting here. As cute as all the little Coke-themed designs are, I’d like to see the red wafer dropped in favor of a second chocolate-and-Coke-syrup one if this new Oreo flavor comes back. (Please come back.)
