It feels like we’re all becoming more and more obsessed with grab-and-go snacks. And who could blame us? Personally, I love snacking in the car, while on a walk, on a job interview—you know, the places where you usually don’t have access to a kitchen and utensils. Well, desserts have long missed out on the grab-and-go trend, so when one rare, handheld frozen dessert comes into my life, I simply must oblige.

Usually handheld ice cream novelties are geared towards kids, so I say “where’s my adult-coded, on-the-go ice cream?!” Doughlicious, which comes to us from London, is the utensil-less, finger-food ice cream dessert you’ve been looking for. It consists of little balls of flavored gelato wrapped up in a layer of cookie dough and rolled through bits of crumbled cookie. Any questions? It’s the mochi for people who don’t like mochi.
As of August 26, 2026, Doughlicious is at Costco locations all over the U.S., and it’s been a fixture at Whole Foods and Target. I got a taste of a variety of flavors, and here are the standouts.
Chocolate Truffle
Normally I’m not a big chocolate-on-chocolate fan, but the way Doughlicious does it, I can hop aboard the chocolate-abundance train. Even though they’re non-dairy, the chocolate makes these like gelato-dough balls so velvety smooth and rich, much like those iconic truffle candies filled with layers of gooey chocolate (who can resist those?). I might have preferred another flavor in the mix—like a vanilla-forward cookie dough on the outside—but chocolate lovers are sure to go nuts for these. I noticed the expertly chewy texture of the dough in this flavor more than in the other varieties I tried, and the contrast in crunchy, melty, and chewy textures was conspicuous.
Mint Chocolate Chip
Mint Chocolate Chip, which is crafted with non-dairy gelato, was my personal fave (I’m a sucker for mint ice cream, what can I say). What I like about these treats, compared to mint chocolate chip ice cream, is that the chocolate flecks in the gelato are small enough that they don’t make you feel like you’re going to break a tooth on hard, frozen chocolate. In fact, if you let them sit at room temp for about 7 minutes or so, the chocolate flecks melt a little and the gelato melds beautifully with the chocolate cookie bits on the outside. The mint flavor is subtle enough that the chocolate really stands out and it doesn’t feel like you’re munching on toothpaste—in fact, it enhances the gelato with just the right amount of creaminess.
Chocolate Chip
Chocolate Chip Doughlicious feels like the quintessential version, although I don’t know for sure if it was the first iteration. It has a little bit of everything: plenty of vanilla-forward flavor, enough chocolate to make things interesting, and Doughlicious’s iconic blend of crunchy and creamy textures. I tried both non-dairy and dairy versions of Chocolate Chip, and honestly, they weren’t too far off from one another, but I preferred the slightly fattier mouthfeel of the gelato in the dairy version.
