The snack cake space gets more and more crowded by the day. Back in the day, you had two options: lil’ Deborah or the Hostess with the mostest. Here in 2026, the two queens of the kingdom are staring down their fellow brand juggernauts Wonder Bread and OREO for that top dog status. (I don’t want to rock any longstanding boats, but Wonder Bread’s chocolate cupcakes beat out the OGs in my book.)
While the other brands are reinventing the wheel as many times as possible, OREO is focusing their energy on just a few genres of pocket-sized pastry: muffins (which I’ll be reviewing soon) and Cakesters. These cake-cookie sandwiches are bigger and softer than the OREO sandwich cookies we all know and love, but still feature that unmistakable creme filling.
Today, we’ve got our hands on the newest permanent addition to the OREO Cakesters lineup: Confetti Cake. These colorful snack cakes are based on the popular Golden Birthday Cake OREO cookies. While the standard Golden OREO Cakesters have been on shelves for a while now, these Confetti Cake Cakesters are the first flavor variant for those who prefer OREO’s lighter side.

Pros: You’d be right to wonder whether the creme will have that over-the-top, borderline waxy flavor that plagues “birthday cake flavored” things. Have no fear, these are perfectly strong without ending up overpowering. While some confetti-branded treats feature textureless, colorful blobs, the confetti found here has a genuine sprinkle texture. That could be a pro or a con depending on your personal preference, but I’m a fan for sure.
If you need a bite-sized birthday cake substitute, you won’t find anything better than these. These are as good as Golden OREO Cakesters can possibly be…
Cons: …which means they are not the best OREO Cakesters! Gasp. I definitely enjoyed these occasion-flavored treats, but I would do unspeakable things for the chocolate OREO Cakesters filled with peanut butter creme. (If Sporked ever institutes the “ritual combat to change a rating” policy I keep asking for, Gwynedd and I will be entering gladiatorial combat over the 5.5 sporks she gave my perfect nutty snack cake.)
