Every day, we get further and further from the original concept of Pop-Tarts being a pastry you’re supposed to toast. Proof: Pop-Tarts is now ice cream. Late last month, food newshound Snackolator posted about an upcoming line of Pop-Tarts-branded ice creams. Read on for the details we found underneath the frosting.
Which Pop-Tarts flavors are being turned into ice cream?
Right now, it looks like the line will launch with (at least) these three flavors: Frosted Strawberry, Frosted Brown Sugar Cinnamon, and Frosted S’mores. Fun fact: the official Sporked Pop-Tarts flavor ranking has those three variants in the top three spots! It’s nice to know Pop-Tarts agrees with us. That said, I would love to see an expansion into my personal favorite classic Pop-Tarts flavor: Wild Berry.
Is this Pop-Tarts’ first appearance in the ice cream aisle?
Not quite, but this will be a much wider release than their last ice cream offering. Back in 2023, Jeni’s Ice Creams released pints of brown sugar cinnamon ice cream with bits of Frosted Brown Sugar Cinnamon Pop-Tarts mixed in. While I didn’t try it myself, Sporked’s own Gwynedd Stuart reviewed it very positively. Something worth taking away from her review? “Pop-Tart pastry is pretty well suited to being an ice cream mix-in.”
When and where will I be able to find Pop-Tarts ice cream on shelves?
Per Snackolator, these will launch in June of this year. The “where” is a little more complicated. Snackolator said these are expected to be released exclusively to certain retailers, depending on your region. I’m hoping that’s code for “Kroger family of stores,” but I’ll keep my ear to the ground for any more concrete updates.
What is Pop-Tarts doing?
Girl, I wish I knew. As someone who regularly covers Pop-Tarts here on Sporked, it seems like stranger and stranger news is coming out by the day. Did y’all see we’re getting Girl Scout Cookie-flavored Pop-Tarts? Honestly, someone should have been checking on Pop-Tarts after they announced those unfrosted-Pop-Tart-themed Crocs back in 2023. That’s worth a wellness check for sure.
