Do you realize that you’re living through a historic event? “Yes, Ariana. I read the news. I’m generally aware of what’s going on in—” Ooo, yeah. Not really what I’m getting at here, so I’ll just spell it out: Today, April 28, 2026, is the very first day in history that Subway has launched an official value menu. Talk about a date for the textbooks, people!

It’s true: Since its inception in 1965, Subway has technically never offered a value menu before.
But you know what Subway did offer? $5 Footlongs. What, did you think I forgot about those, Subway? C’mon. That jingle is permanently embedded in my psyche. (“Five… five… five-dollar footloooooong.”)
All I can say is that the 2000s and 2010s were quite a time. You could buy a new car for under 20k. You could start a successful business without a college degree and purchase a home without even a sliver of generational wealth. And you could order a sandwich that’s literally the size of a ruler for $5. I can’t even order a mini sub (4 to 5 inches) from Jimmy John’s for less than $8.
But hey, Subway’s new value menu is changing that. It’s no $5 Footlong, but it’s something.
Subway’s value menu includes four sandwiches, four wraps, and one “sub of the day” that changes every day of the week—all for under $5.
And yes, you can customize your toppings. Premium toppings like bacon and avocado cost extra, but otherwise, you have free rein. Also, I’m including a little snippet from the PR release I find particularly fun, because it’s clearly a dig at McDonald’s:
“This isn’t a hashbrown, a small side salad or a cup of coffee, it’s a six-inch sandwich full of protein and veggies, with most items boasting more than 20 grams of protein and fewer than 500 calories.”
I’m still mad at McDonald’s recent changes to their value menu and how it’s made their hashbrowns even more expensive. So go ahead and throw your shade, Subway. I’ll stand by you.
So what’s on the menu?
Here’s the full Subway value menu in all its glory, because I love a list:
Deli Faves ($3.99): 6-inch subs
- Spicy Pepperoni (NEW): aged pepperoni, pepper jack cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, red onions, jalapeños, and sriracha
- Ham & Salami (NEW): Black Forest ham, Genoa salami, provolone, lettuce, tomatoes, and honey mustard
- Cold Cut Combo: turkey-based Black Forest ham, Genoa salami, and bologna with provolone, lettuce, tomatoes, red onions, and mayo
- BLT: classic bacon, lettuce, tomato with mayo
Protein Pockets ($4.99): tortilla wraps
- Baja Chicken: grilled chicken strips, Monterey cheddar, Baja Chipotle sauce, lettuce, tomatoes, jalapeños
- Peppercorn Ranch Chicken: grilled chicken strips, Monterey cheddar, Peppercorn Ranch, lettuce, tomatoes, pickles
- Italian Trio: Black Forest ham, aged pepperoni, Genoa salami, Monterey cheddar, lettuce, tomatoes, garlic aioli
- Turkey Ham: turkey, Black Forest ham, Monterey cheddar, lettuce, tomatoes, honey mustard
Sub of the Day ($4.99)
- Meatball Monday: Meatball Marinara
- Tuna Tuesday: Classic Tuna Sub
- Sweet Onion Teriyaki Wednesday (rolls right off the tongue, doesn’t it?): Sweet Onion Chicken Teriyaki
- Turkey Thursday: Oven-Roasted Turkey
- Forest Ham Friday: Black Forest ham
- BMT Saturday: Italian B.M.T.
- Spicy Italian Sunday: Spicy Italian
For some people, though, there is a catch.
California, Hawaii, Washington, and Alaska won’t be treated to the same prices as the rest of the U.S. It’s in the fine print. I found this out by trying to order one of their “Deli Faves” at my local Subway in L.A. and being hit, quite dramatically, with an $11 price point at checkout. I wondered if their website just wasn’t up to date on these deals yet, but I changed the location to Florida and, lo and behold, the sub was just $3.99. Sigh. You wound me, Subway.
The “Protein Pockets” and “Sub of the Day” were still only $4.99 each, though, if that’s any consolation to my fellow Californians. I can’t speak to the prices in other states. (Subway reps, if you’re reading this and I have bad info… email me!)
Oh, and these aren’t the only changes to Subway’s menu right now. They just debuted three new spicy sandwiches… in Canada. More on that here. Okay, toodles!!
