Taco Bell is always innovating by making existing items larger, smaller, or slightly different in shape. Earlier this year, our favorite fast-food chain dropped Crunchwrap Sliders, a miniature, dippable two-pack of the Crunchwraps we all know and love. This time around, Taco Bell has revived their Cheesy Dipping Burritos… sans the outer layer of cheese. Gasp.

Don’t shed those tears just yet, though; every order of Double Dipping Burritos includes the debut of Taco Bell’s new Split Dip Cup. This two-compartment condiment holder contains the brand’s Spicy Ranch on one side and a “crunchy, seasoned blend of crushed tortilla chips and cheddar cheese crispies” on the other. Basically, you dip a burrito in sauce and then use that sauce to add a new layer of crunch with every bite. How is this not bigger news? Taco Bell was nice enough to send over a gift card for us to try the new Double Dipping Burritos for ourselves; let’s find out if we’ll be going back for seconds.

New Taco Bell Burritos!

Pros: I’m always on board with Taco Bell’s miniature dipping burritos, no matter the context. The “Burritos” featured in these Double Dipping Burritos aren’t actually new, but it’s still worth noting these are a great snack-sized side option (or entree, if you’re looking for a lighter lunch) anytime they’re on the menu.

The real winner here is, obviously, the new Split Dip Cup. The concept works perfectly (as long as your Split Dip Cup stays sealed in the bag–I’ve had 50/50 success with that so far), making for a great textural addition to the dipping burrito concept. I’m almost more excited about the potential for future innovation than I am about having this version right now. Can you imagine a Split Dip Cup with Creamy Chipotle Sauce and crushed Doritos? Or Nacho Cheese and a Tajín crunch blend? Now that this cup is stocked in stores, the opportunities are endless.

Cons: I am in love with Taco Bell’s new slow-roasted Cantina Chicken compared to the previous recipe, but I don’t think this format is the best fit for it. Stick with the steak if you’re going to check out the Double Dipping Burritos for yourself.
