Remember when chicken sandwiches were the hottest thing imaginable? While the culture seems to have moved on, some chains like Whataburger are still innovating in the hopes they can come up with the next viral sammy. And nothing says viral like hot honey…
While my ole’ reliable Whataburger order has always been a Patty Melt, I was swayed by the limited-time-only Hot Honey Crisp Whatachick’n Sandwich being promoted at the top of the menu… especially since it appeared to include a pimento cheese spread!? Y’all, we need more pimento cheese in the fast food game.
Full disclosure, folks: I’d actually already ordered this sandwich for dinner before checking whether we had already covered it here on Sporked. Despite what some people in my life claim, I do still eat food recreationally every once in a while… but not this time. Let’s find out whether Whataburger can elevate this fast food staple.

Pros: Oh, hallelujah. I’ve never had Whataburger’s take on the chicken sandwich before, but if they keep this item around, I’ll never go back to their burgers. (This is the same agreement I have regarding Shake Shack’s fantastic chicken sandwich.)
You know how restaurant food never looks as good as it does in the ad? While I can’t pretend the potato bun was as pristine as the image seen here, it’s pretty damn accurate otherwise. The hot honey was really dripping across the entire filet of chicken, while the fantastic red pepper cheddar cheese spread was oozing out the sides with every bite.
Speaking of the hot honey, while this isn’t specifically a branded collab, I wouldn’t be surprised to find out this is using the Smucker’s version I got an early taste of last year. This isn’t just hot for heat’s sake; there’s real flavor to every piece of this fantastic sandwich. (And speaking of the pieces, shoutout to Whataburger for keeping the pickles off this one by default–it really wouldn’t work.)
Cons: While this is definitely a pimento cheese spread, it’s officially labeled a “creamy red pepper cheddar cheese spread” which is a mouthful. Luckily for them, it’s such a delicious mouthful that I’ll let it slide.

This wasn’t the only new Whataburger menu item to blow my socks off. No spoilers, but expect a similarly glowing review of their new Peaches & Cream Shake in a few days.
