Our Official Alani Nu Blue Slush Review

Y’all, I called it back in January. When I first covered the reveal of the newest Alani Nu flavor, Strawberry Sunrise, I ended that news piece with a prophetic statement: “If there were places to bet on this kind of thing, I’d put money on a new version of Blue Slush in fridges before summer’s end.” Tell me when I’m telling lies: I’ve got a brand new can of Alani Nu Blue Slush in front of me.

So, this is a new version of the old Blue Slush flavor? Not quite. While I was very confident earlier this year that Blue Slush would get a redesign and assumed we’d see a formula update, Alani Nu has claimed that the drink inside the new can is exactly the same as the stuff inside the old can design.

That being said, many folks online are convinced there’s something different about this flavor besides a new coat of paint. Was Alani Nu too scared of turning off Blue Slush’s existing fanbase to reveal a change? Is this just a placebo effect stemming from a snazzy new look? Without a can of the original Blue Slush to try for myself, all I can do is speculate.

Alani Nu Blue Slush

New(?) Alani Nu Flavor!

Alani Nu Blue Slush

Pros: This blue raspberry slushie drink tastes exactly like what you’d get at the movies. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Alani Nu’s “Slush” line is head and shoulders above the rest of their drinks. I don’t know how they do it, but all three Slush flavors are uncannily convincing despite being zero sugar. I really want to put this in a Ninja Slushi and find out whether it’s distinguishable from a classic blue ICEE.

Cons: Alani Nu is really in a league of their own. This flavor would be a ten for execution if it came from any other company, but Alani Nu’s other two Slush flavors (Pink and Cherry) just slightly outclass this one for me. There’s no shame in third place, Blue.

Where can I find Alani Nu Blue Slush for myself?

At this point, you can find Alani Nu pretty much anywhere. If the place you’re at sells energy drinks at all, they’ve at least got a few Alani Nu flavors available. (Of all places, I found this can at the largest truckstop on the planet, Iowa 80.) If you’re having trouble finding it and don’t mind buying in bulk, Alani Nu’s website will happily sell you a full case once they’re back in stock.

What’s next for Alani Nu?

While you might think having a new corporate overlord would affect the speed that Alani Nu puts out new drinks, you’d be wrong. Keep your eyes right here on Sporked for a news article from yours truly about the next Alani Nu flavor. Here’s a teaser: Just like Blue Slush, the new flavor is also based on a frozen treat.
