The sheer amount of yogurt options in Trader Joe’s should be studied. From varieties of Greek yogurt to Icelandic yogurt to just about every fruit-flavored yogurt you can imagine, the Trader Joe’s yogurt aisle might actually be overstocked. But I’m not complaining. I love to embrace variety, but I do wish we could trade some of these yogurt options for, I don’t know, new coffee creamers. Or more varieties of marinara sauce.
Anyways, that’s my long-winded way of saying that I tried over 15 different yogurt options from Trader Joe’s and whittled it down to the best-tasting ones.
What I looked for in the best Trader Joe’s yogurt:
- Tangy, rich flavor: Yogurt, nonfat or otherwise, shouldn’t taste like sour cream. Greek yogurts should come with a bold, lingering tang. Fruity flavors need to taste like real fruit purees.
- Texture: The best Trader Joe’s yogurt can be thick and stiff or luxuriously creamy—as long as it’s not watery or gelatinous, we’re in business.
- Acceptable levels of sugar: I don’t know if you’ve looked at the back of a flavored yogurt cup recently, but some of these little guys are sporting almost 20g of sugar. A nutrition label that doesn’t give me an existential crisis is preferred (but not, as you’ll see below, necessarily required).
To be fair, I don’t think I tasted a bad Trader Joe’s yogurt—but some were just a little more special than others. Here’s what we recommend for your next TJ’s run!
- Creamy Cashew Cultured Yogurt Alternative
-
For a yogurt alternative, I was pretty impressed with both the unsweetened and sweetened versions of TJ’s Creamy Cashew Yogurt. (The sweetened version is very dessert-adjacent, almost like a melted nutty ice cream, but a little bit tangy.) But the unsweetened cashew yogurt has significantly less sugar (1g), which you can sweeten on your own with a bit of honey or fruit. The cashew flavor isn’t too earthy or bitter, with zero weird lingering aftertaste. I wish the consistency was a little stiffer, but that’s my only real gripe!

- Trader Joe’s Skyr Icelandic Style Cherry
-
This is the best Trader Joe’s yogurt for little tang-seeking freaks like me. Skyr is an Icelandic yogurt that’s strained until it’s super thick and creamy—close to Greek yogurt, but denser and a little less sour. Still, with that cherry puree mixed in, this yogurt is tangy as hell. I’ve never had anything like it, to be honest. It’s not for everyone, but cherry fans should check it out. Plus, it only has 7 grams of sugar—and I say “only” because most of TJ’s flavored yogurt is double that. You could crumble bits of cookie or graham cracker over this and still not consume as much sugar as our #1. (Maybe just stick to granola, though.)

- Strawberries & Cream, Bananas & Cream Yogurt Cups
-
First of all, I’m sorry. There is an egregious amount of sugar in this line of fruity yogurt cups (16g per little cup), which means I’m going against my own criteria. But I can’t help it. They taste incredible, like something out of a farmer’s market. They even look the part, too, with the cute pastel packaging that’s square-shaped and rustic. Fans of banana pudding will adore the banana and cream flavor. It’s so toasty and mellow, but with actual pureed banana inside.

- Mangos & Cream, Peaches & Cream
-
“Again, Ariana?! Really?” Yes. What do you want from me? I was tasked to find the best Trader Joe’s yogurt, and I try to take a holistic approach to my rankings, but flavor is always king. You really don’t have to add anything to these for them to be delicious. All of the flavors are good, but Mangos & Cream tastes like a smoothie in a cup. It’s so summery and chill. Peaches & Cream is definitely the sweetest, but I still loved it (and I’m notorious for my low sugar tolerance).

- Trader Joe’s Greek Yogurt Whole Milk
-
If I’m going to buy yogurt from Trader Joe’s, this is the tub I would buy. It’s super stiff and rich and sour. I was hoping TJ’s Nonfat Greek Yogurt would offer the same glorious tang as my trusty tub of Chobani Nonfat, but that one was a bit of a let down. But this whole milk tub has a much fuller flavor that’s actually comparable to Chobani and our other favorite Greek yogurt brands, with a noticeably smooth finish. It’s the perfect Greek yogurt for anyone who likes a rich, thick creaminess and a slightly more subtle tang.

- Trader Joe’s Greek Yogurt with Honey
-
Unfortunately, this is one of the best-tasting yogurt cups I’ve ever had in my life. “Uh oh. How much sugar is it, Ariana?” Well…17 grams. Which isn’t as much as, like, a strawberry Yoplait, but it’s still a lot. Whatever! Let me live! I’m not sure what they did to the honey in this, but it’s what I imagine the nectar from Olympus would taste like. I would pay big money for this at a farmer’s market. Go ahead and crumble some crunchy apple cinnamon granola over top and reach completion. You’re welcome.
