“Which one? Which one!?” Be patient, folks. Yes, Hostess is bringing back a fan-favorite discontinued snack cake along with a few other new products and a new look for the brand itself. For those curious about how we dug up these snack cake secrets, we got all this info from The J.M. Smucker Company’s presentation at CAGNY 2025. Which Hostess Cake is coming back?
Hostess finally read all our angry letters: Suzy Q’s are back. Described as “the biggest Hostess Snack Cake,” these oblong creme sandwiches were first sold all the way back in 1961. They’ve had a few discontinuations and returns since then (most recently leaving shelves in late 2020, a popular time to discontinue products), but they’re coming back again for another go this year. If you’re familiar with the Drake’s snack cake lineup, these are very similar to Devil Dogs (aka some of the best snack cakes, period, according to Sporked).
What new Hostess cakes are coming out?
Alongside the long-awaited return of Suzy Q’s, it looks like we’ve got two new variants of existing Hostess cakes hitting shelves this year. First off, there’s “Donette Fritter Rings” available in Apple Cinnamon. I’ve already found these on store shelves; let me know in the comments if y’all want a review of these new actual-donut-sized Donettes.
Then we’ve got the new Chocolate Cupcakes Minis. Based on the product image I found inside the CAGNY presentation, these will be about a third smaller than your average Hostess Cupcake, with three in a pack instead of two. While I’ve only seen a render of the Chocolate flavor at this time, you have to imagine these will expand to other classic Cupcake flavors if the variant does well. (Speaking of Hostess Cupcakes, I just got my hands on three new flavors based on desserts like Key Lime Pie and Orange Creme Pop; get in the comments if you want to see a review of those!)
Why does the Hostess logo look different?
Hostess has undergone the brand equivalent of Botox, aka “un-rebranding.” Just like Mountain Dew, 7UP, and many others, Hostess has flattened and simplified their branding. While it isn’t identical, this new logo is closest in look and vibe to the logo launched in the late ‘80s—definitely no accident, considering that same nostalgia-craving generation is walking through grocery stores with disposable income. We’re a few years from Heinz bringing back those neon-colored E-Z-Squirt ketchups, just you wait.

I’m one of the disgruntled customers who wrote to say to please make Suzie Q with the old recipe. I have loved them from the first time I tasted them an the new recipe didn’t taste as good!! Please let me know when I can buy some with the original recipe… please bring back the Banana Flip as well❤️

If Hostess is going to get all nostalgic on us, with the revamped retro logo, then they need to bring back some of those
treats we had back then! Banana Flips, Chocodiles, Choco Bliss, Fruit Pies and the Pudding Pies! Come on Hostess.. bring them back!
Sure. Hope they bring the banana flips back. Those were fantastic and I agree with everybody else. Thick cream has to be in a Suzy q or banana flip.
Bring back they different flavored pies, we are tired of apple and cherry. These are dried out when you bite into them. I remember the fruit pies being so full and rich in flavor.

The thought of suzi is sounds great only if they come back the way they used to be with thick cream center not the thin stuff when it went away. If it’s thin cream they can just keep it
I hope the Suzi Q’s are like the ones they last had with the moist cake and double stuffed cream. I have missed them so much. I don’t know why they discontinued them at the worst time. Covid was happening and it was stressful and this was comfort food. I can’t wait.

My wife will be excited for the return of the Suzy Q. She has been looking for them everywhere.
I have been patiently waiting for the day the Hostess company realized the mistake they made when they discontinued Suzy Q’s snack cakes. I just hope they don’t make them with less cream filling. That, in my opinion, is what made them sooo delicious. The dark chocolate cake is a winner too.
