This summer, every company has to pick a side: soccer or America? Okay, it isn’t that drastic, but it does seem like everyone is doing either an America250 or FIFA World Cup promotion. While POWERADE is going all-in with three soccer-inspired flavors, Gatorade is leaning into the red, white, and blue.

Say hello to Gatorade All-American Mashups Thirst Quencher, a real mouthful of a flavor name that raises more questions than it answers. To date, the Gatorade Mashups series has consisted of combining two existing Gatorade flavors into one brand-new amalgamation. This new All-American Mashup bucks the trend by… not doing that.

So, what flavor is Gatorade All-American Mashups Thirst Quencher?

This is an exceptionally good question! Do you know where you won’t find the answer? The bottle. There are exactly zero clues to the flavor (or flavors, since this claims to be a mashup after all) of this Gatorade anywhere on the bottle. Per the side, this Gatorade is “Celebrating America’s 250th With One Game-Changing Flavor” which, again, tells us nothing. I cracked open my bottle with a varied group of taste-testers, none of whom could blindly identify even one of the two flavors I later discovered this Gatorade allegedly contains. Is this the second-ever Mystery Flavor Gatorade?

New Gatorade Mashup!

Per a PepsiCo partner website, this sports drink claims to be “Mango Passion Fruit” flavored. We’ll get into my issues with those fruit choices next; let’s discuss the formula sans label.

Pros: I’m not the biggest mango fan, but the passion fruit does a good job of lifting that particular overexposed fruit into a pleasant, refreshing space. This is a very solid take on tropical fruit in sports drink form.

Cons: On what Earth would we narrow down fruits that scream America to mango and passion fruit? This truly feels like Gatorade had a solid formula just sitting around waiting to be used for something. If only there were a trio of red, white, and blue fruit flavors that would fit both the bottle’s design and the concept of a flavor mashup. Y’all, we were truly robbed of a Firecracker Pop Gatorade.
