The Sporked Essentials You Need for an Epic Mythicon

You did it! You’ve begun your epic Mythicon journey. Are you ready? Sure, sure, you packed your bag and you have your 8×10 portrait of Cotton Candy Randy ready to be signed (with a knife, presumably)—but are you really ready? For instance, do you know how to make a quick and easy two-ingredient fry sauce on the fly? Or are you stocked up on all the best Pedialyte for…those mornings? We’re here to help. Here are Sporked’s essentials for an epic Mythicon.

Whether you’re driving to Mythicon or just looking for nibbles to have to and from the hotel to the con itself, we’ve got you covered.

For the road…

Sporked writer Danny Palumbo swears by Sabritas salt and lime peanuts, Mythical social media manager Greg Johnson and junior writer Meghan Malone get a protein fix (and a jaw workout) from beef jerky, and multiple Mythical crew members are ranch Corn Nut diehards.

When you stop…

After you recover from the price of a full tank of gas, be sure to stock up on a few of our gas station food favorites. We’re talking BBQ sunflower seeds, Takis (Fuego, of course), some Sour Skittles, and Munchos—a good potato chip with a great name. And if you’re really brave you’ll follow Danny’s advice and grab a hard boiled egg

You need a warm-up before you challenge Josh to an eating contest. Start the day with one of these fast and tasty breakfasts.

For a healthy start…

Instant oatmeal is a space-saving breakfast you can take anywhere. Get your hands on a paper cup and some boiling water (or a microwave) and you’ve got breakfast. Yes, some plain oatmeals are better than others. We like Better Oats Organic Bare best. If you want something a little more…mythical…try Cocoa Puffs instant oatmeal or Kroger’s Fruit & Cream variety pack.

For on-the-go crunch…

Want a real no-cook solution? Granola bars are ready to be thrown into a backpack or a glove compartment or a pocket or super-sweet fanny pack. Nature Valley Sweet & Salty Nut Almond Granola Bars are the best granola bars Sporked writer Jordan Myrick has ever had. But Trevor (of Mythical Kitchen and Trevor Talks Too Much) backs Sunbelt Bakery Chocolate Chip Granola Bars

For a sweet treat…

If you need a sugary pick-me-up in the morning, Pop-Tarts are the way to go. We know you’ll probably side with Rhett & Link on this one and pick their favorite Pop-Tart (Wildlicious! Frosted Wild Berry), but we really think you should give Frosted S’mores a chance. The gooey, chocolatey Pop-Tart was our favorite of the bunch.

After screaming singing your heart out at Emily’s Karaoke Jam, you need to replenish your fluids.

For a tropical escape…

Coconut water is packed with electrolytes that can help make you feel..somewhat better, at least. Our top pick is C20—it’s full of intense coconut flavor and not too sweet. And it comes in a big tall boy of a can.

For those really desperate times…

Pedialyte is good for more than just sick kiddos. It’s also there for us grown-ups when we need instant replenishment. Our top flavor was Tropical Fruit, which doesn’t taste too much like watered-down medicine.

For water purists…

If nothing but water will do the trick, crack open a can of Rhett, Link & Stevie’s favorite canned water: Liquid Death. If you want a little flavor in your water, however, opt for Rhett & Link’s top La Croix Flavor, classic Lime

If you’re feeling your pep flagging but you need your mind to be sharp for Davin’s Trivia Night, try one of these beverages; they’re guaranteed to amp you up.

For a cold cuppa joe…

Save some cold hard cash by skipping the coffee shop and getting your own source of cold brew goodness from the grocery store. We like STōK Un-Sweet Black Cold Brew best—it has a mellow, chocolaty flavor and it packs a punch.

For a monster rush…

The Sporked team’s favorite Monster Energy flavor was Juice Monster Pipeline Punch. Big POG vibes. If you’d prefer to take Rhett & Link’s advice, you’ll go for the Nitro Super Dry, which tastes like…well…Rhett & Link really couldn’t say what it tasted like but they liked it.

For when all else fails…

Channel your inner Jordan and down a spoonful of mustard. We’re fans of Kroger’s yellow mustard
